LETTING THE SPARKS FLY

It is my passionate way as an educator and positive psychologist, to take you back to your 'sparks' that can light up your life. Last week we learned about Dr. Nancy who accidentally found some of her 'sparks' in an airplane. You can find yours, of course by chance. But I encourage you to find these 'sparks' more often than that. You can do it.

Here is one way to start. Over the next week, list at least one thing a day that you enjoyed doing as a child. On the seventh day, sit quietly with your list and maybe a cup of tea, and pick one of those memories to spend some time and really revisit. Get to know that child again.

For example, one summer at camp I loved making model cars. I can get right back there if I try. I'm sitting in the open-sided tent and I can feel my excitement as I worked with the tiny pieces. I can also feel my pride as I completed a car, my heart beating in excitement.  Wait until my parents saw!  I knew I would be lining these cars up on my book shelf as soon as I got home and I couldn't wait to start the next.

What can I do with that memory?

First, I can savor it and enjoy it. I can give that little girl a hug and promise her that we will find some more fun things to do. It won't be a model car, but maybe something else that is fitting for me now. Ummmm… I'm thinking. I'll get back to you and please get back to me with what you unearth as you let the 'sparks' fly
